The Sindh government is preparing to produce Pakistan’s first government -run electric vehicle (EV) taxi service till December.
According to officials, the move aims to provide eco -friendly and cheap travel powers in urban centers, which is expected to be the first city to benefit Karachi. The decision was finalized at a meeting chaired by senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Anim Memon, who also oversee information and transport departments.
“The Sindh government will be the first to operate the state-run EV taxi service in Pakistan. The project reflects the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Standardari to introduce safe, modern and sustainable transportation to the public.”
In its early stages, a portion of the EV taxi fix will be specific to women, which will continue to focus on the government’s sensitive movement. The move is after the first introduction of the Pink Bus Service for the female travelers and the pink scotti scheme.
Department of Transport officials noted that EV taxi is part of a broader strategy to reduce the project emissions, reduce traditional fuel dependence and offer public transportation options.
