By amending the Ministry of Commerce’s Export Policy Order, the federal government has officially lifted the ban on the export of donkey prints.
The move has changed the 2015 decision of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), which banned the export of donkeys between the concerns over the illegal sale of donkey meat in different cities.
Under the new policy, the export of donkey hideouts will be strictly limited to firms and companies operating in the nominee, approved, or registered donkey slaughterhouses located within Gwadar Free Zone.
The notification makes it clear that the previous ban on exporting donkeys hidden has now been removed from the Export Policy Order.
The decision was reported last July about the Senate Standing Committee for Trade that the protocol for exporting donkey skins and meat to China has been finalized, with onions, potatoes and pepper export contracts.
However, the move has also dismissed concerns about animal welfare. In August, a consultation workshop on the role of equality that works to support livelihood and to deal with the emerging threats of donkeys, horses and mules has highlighted the scale of the global donkey’s skin trade. Of the world’s 55.5 million donkeys, an estimated 6 million is killed for their printing annually.
