The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a new system for modeling vehicles and number plates after the federal system. The purpose of this update is to increase security, reduce vehicle use in criminal activities, and offer more facilities to the public.
Connecting Vehicle entry to CNIC
Under the new system, the vehicle’s registration number and number plates will be connected to the owner’s computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) instead of the vehicle’s chassis number. The purpose of this change is to improve the accountability and detection of vehicles, which makes it easier for law enforcement agencies to detect vehicles used in criminal activities.
The new system has been implemented in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with immediate effect. The full implementation will begin after November 30, 2025, which will give the vehicle owners the latest transfer time.
The process of ownership and transfer of vehicles
Excise, taxation and drug control department have issued guidelines for vehicle owners. Under the new law, vehicle owners need to move their purchased vehicle to their name within three months. People who have sold their car have to ensure that the property has been properly transferred to the buyer.
When a vehicle is sold, a CNIC -connected registration copy or smart card will be disabled but the new owner will remain with the previous owner.
Number plate retaining and transferring
Owners will be allowed to move their registration number and plates to the newly purchased vehicle. The passive number can be maintained for three years, provided they go through the annual biometric verification. If this number has not been re -assigned in three years, it will be canceled, and the registration copy, smart card, and number plates have to be returned to the registering authority.
This new vehicle registration system aims to smooth the process for citizens, while improving better tracking and security transfer of car ownership.
