Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Mohammad Junaid Anwar Chowdhury has announced several steps to enhance cement and cleaners exports, with special attention to Port Qasim, by improving port infrastructure and operational capacity.

Presiding over a meeting, he said that all major ports representing the subcommittee headed by Port Qasim Authority chief Rear Admiral Syed Mozam Elias have finalized key recommendations to accelerate export capabilities.

The Minister called for urgent needs to accelerate the construction of two additional multi -purpose berths in Port Qasim, which would significantly increase the port’s capacity to handle the export cargo more efficiently.

To support export logistics, plans are also underway to facilitate an additional storage facility in Port Qasim with a capacity of 30,000 metric tons. He added that once the desired rituals were completed, the project would start by the end of 2025.

The Minister further announced that permanent repair work will be done on the existing storage infrastructure, which will be targeted within four to five months, within four to five months, within four to five months, within four to five months to ensure export operations.

In a major development, the Port Qasim Authority will work together with the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) to seek the use of currently used Sahiwal berth for clinker exports.
