City officials have approved two major development projects aimed at tackling urban challenges and improving public facilities.
At a meeting chaired by Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar on Monday, officials decided to build a nine -storey modern parking plaza at the old place of Mayor House near Chinaite Bazaar. Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir told the meeting that the facility would cover 493,000 square feet.
The basement and lower ground floor will be dedicated to motorcycle parking, while a commercial market will be offered with 215 shops in the lower ground, land and the first floor. Car parking will be provided in the upper five floors, and a roofed food court will be prepared to enhance the use of the project.
The move is expected to be jointly carried out by the District Council and the Municipal Corporation, which is expected to reduce the chronic parking problems around the city’s eight major markets near the Clock Tower.
The meeting also approved the establishment of Food Street in the old Lady Park to offer quality food, promote traditional food, and provide residents and visitors a dynamic social space.
