Special train units will be imported from China for high -speed services between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, which will start work on March 23, 2026. The purpose of the project is being developed under the Capital Devil Authority (CDA) joint cooperation and railway ministry to provide modern travel facilities to the twin cities.

According to officials, the service will go between Rawalpindi’s Saddar Railway Station and Margala Railway Station in Islamabad. The newly added diesel is expected from multiple units (DMU) trains to reduce travel time between the two cities for just 20 minutes. The CDA will manage these operations, while Pakistan will be responsible for maintaining the railway track infrastructure.

Currently, the direct train journey between Islamabad and Rawalpindi is limited to long distance routes, such as Islamabad Express, which connects to Lahore and stops at both Margala and Rawalpindi stations. Dedicated high -speed service is seen as an important step towards improving urban movement in the capital region.
