The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) has revealed that the majority of electric bikes are non -standard and old batteries nationwide.
According to Pama, currently about 90 90 % of the sold in Pakistan or electric two -wheeled lead -acid batteries are sold as “graphine batteries”. The association called on the government to turn EV subsidy towards such old technology, and call it a waste of public resources.
Palma Director General Abdul Waheed Khan said consumers already pay a premium for EV despite government privileges and should not be forced to buy vehicles equipped with incredible batteries. “In Pakistan, more than 90 percent of the electric bikes use lead-powered batteries that are coated with a thin graphine layer-a-meal and ineffective amendment,” he said.
He warned that if consumers have to face repeated failures from these low -quality batteries, they will completely lose confidence in the power vehicle.
Government’s smooth program 2025–30
The federal government has launched the Pakistan Excelted Vehicle Electricity (PAVE) program 2025-130, which has been financed through 3 % NEV Levi on petrol and diesel vehicles. This program RS. 122 billion in subsidy, but only for lithium ion or other advanced battery technologies equipped with EV.
Global battery standards
Globally, lithium -ion batteries are preferred due to their longevity, sharp charging, high energy density and better performance.
Khan also noted that local manufacturers do not offer more than 24 months warranty on these batteries, while lithium -ion batteries usually come with five years or more. He further alleged that some rich interests were manipulating EV production and sales data to mislead policy makers and investors.
Khan cautioned, “Unless the government takes strict action against outdated technologies and misleading claims, the risk of Pakistan’s EV transfer loses both credibility and pace.”
