A spokesman for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for Sindh, Barrister Raja Khaliq-Oz Zaman Ansari has alleged that Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has sent the city wardens to stop the ongoing work on the Green Line project.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Ansari said that at the second phase of the Green Line, construction is easily developing till intervention. He added that if the work continues without delay, the project can be completed by June 2026, and rejecting claims that it may take up to 2035.
Ansari said, “This is not about political point scoring. I request the mayor of Karachi to cooperate so that we can serve the city together.”
He explained that the appropriate procedures need to be raised through official notice, not to prevent work through mission wardens from working forcibly. According to him, the federal government is now facing daily financial losses due to disruption.
Ansari emphasized that the second phase of the Green Line will work as a joint transit for all BRT buses in the future. He said that the federal government has already allocated Rs 5.5 billion to ensure better transportation facilities in Karachi.
He reminded that the Green Line is a federal project, which was first inaugurated by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2016, and was officially handed over to the Sindh government on March 10, 2025. The ridership has also increased significantly, which has also increased significantly in passengers, synchronizing daily passengers.
Ansari demanded that the federal government, provincial officials, and the mayor’s office work together so that the residents of Karachi could benefit from better public transport.
