Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced Thursday that the Sindh government will soon launch a new “punk taxi” service allocated for women.
Addressing a function in Karachi, where free electric pink scooter was distributed to women, Bilawal said that the taxi move will be prepared to provide safe and reliable transport options for female passengers in the near future.
“This is just the beginning,” Bilawal told the participants. “Very soon, we will organize another program to introduce punk taxis for women.” He said that the move was based on the preliminary steps of Sindh, which included the launch of electric buses and punk bus service in Karachi, which is the first province to provide specific public transport to women.
During the event, Bilawal distributed the keys of free pink scooters to the women, adding that the scheme aims to reduce the travel difficulties facing women’s students and workers.
He recalled that earlier Saturday, the provincial government also launched a Benazir green card scheme to provide financial support to the flood -hit farmers.
Bilawal emphasized that empowering women is central to the development agenda of Sindh, adding that Pakistan’s progress in any sector would not be possible without their active participation.
