The Sindh government has given a green light to the Karachi port to the Qayyamabad Elevated Expressway project, which will be manufactured under the model of the Public Private Partnership (PPP).
The approval came during the 48th meeting of the PPP Policy Board held at the Chief Minister’s house on Friday and was headed by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the officials to speed up the project documents so that the foundation could start work. The board also endorsed the project’s scope, structure and risk framework, and approved an unauthorized proposal to move towards competition.
According to the plan, the project will include 16.5 km, the design, financial and construction of the four -lane Elevated Expressway, which connects the Karachi Port (East Warf) to the Jam Sadiq Interchange. Once completed, the expressway will reduce travel distances by about 26 km, allowing the movement of heavy vehicles 24 hours, and will significantly reduce traffic in Karachi. It is expected to increase the port operations and improve contact with M-9 motorway and city-to-city Bhutto.
The board has approved further approval of the design to better connect the project with the Yellow Line BRT, mixed traffic destruction, improve port access and minimize land acquisition requirements.
Developed under the design, blood, finance, operation, and transfer (DBFOT) model, the project will work at the consumer salary base, in which the Sindh government will guarantee the Capital and Operational Wilate Gap Fund (VGF) and the minimum tax guarantee for ten years.
