The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved a long -awaited plan to build two or two tunnels through the Margala hills, a development that will show the time of travel between Haripur and Islamabad.

According to officials, the tunnels will reduce the distance from Haripur to Islamabad to just eight miles, which will give passengers a chance to complete the journey in just 10 to 15 minutes. Once completed, the tunnels will directly connect Hazara Motorway (M-15) to Islamabad’s D-12 sector, which will provide modern and effective transport links for the region.

Construction is expected to begin in December 2025 and will end by December 2028. The project has been included in the annual development programs of KP and will be implemented under the Public Private Partnership Model. The provincial government has RS. 1 billion for the first year, while the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will also extend cooperation.

The feasibility study has already been completed, and the tunnels will be bright and constructed according to international standards.

Sources in the Hazara Development Authority said that the project has been delayed for almost two decades due to shortage of funds and changes in government priorities. He emphasized that the provincial government is determined to look at it until the federal participation is limited.

Officials believe that the tunnels will increase regional relations, eliminate the traffic crowd, and the residents of Hazara and Islamabad will have economic benefits.
