The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has finally extended the deadline for submission of income tax declarations for the tax year 2025, and has transferred it from September 30 to October 15, 2025.

The decision was announced through an official circular issued under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001.

“In the use of powers under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001, the Federal Board of Revenue is happy that the date of filing the Income Tax Return for the Tax Year (TY) 2025, who needs to file their profits by 30, 2024, on October 14, 2025, from different trade companies.

According to the FBR, the extension comes in response to the requests of various commercial institutions, tax bar associations and the general public, which have been linked to tax filing.

Just three hours before announcing the extension, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had strongly said that the deadline for submitting income tax declarations for tax year 2025 would not be increased by midnight tonight.

In its first statement, the FBR reiterated that taxpayers would have to register their return till 12 am, they have warned that anyone who loses the deadline will be considered as late filers under the law. The authority also made it clear that non -filers will face penalties in accordance with the current legal provisions.

The FBR emphasized that taxpayers could easily submit their statements using the newly introduced income tax return form, but warned that any return filed after the deadline would yield legal consequences.

The Tax Authority advised all eligible taxpayers to ensure the submission of the kit off -time, adding that when the date of filing will not be extended themselves, but those who clean their appropriate tax responsibilities can achieve a 15 -day extension for the purpose of collecting their profit.

However, after rejecting the news about any possible extension, the FBR has now taken a U -turn and officially announced an extension for the deadline for filing, which causes taxpayers to face the last minute obstacles.

So far, 4.1 million taxpayers have filed their return, while the FBR has set an internal target of 10 million filers for the current fiscal year. Last year, a total of 7.6 million tax declarations were filed. Sources told proposal that this year’s target is not needed for the IMF but is an internal standard by the FBR.

Tax professionals and business groups are urging the FBR to extend the deadline, citing more time needed to complete the issues and documents with the online filing system.

A letter from the President of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Tax Bar Association, Farz Fazl Sheikh, also made a formal request for an extension. The letter states that companies are needed at the end of one year between the Income Tax Ordinance, Section 118 of 2001, from July 1, 2024 to June 30, June 30, 2025, and on July 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024. The year 2025 return to September 30, 2025.

The letter respectively requested the Prime Minister to instruct the FBR to release the general expansion of dead filing by at least December 31, 2025, and to declare the extension of electronic and print media extensively to avoid millions of individual expansion.

The FBR has called on all eligible taxpayers to take advantage of the expanded deadline and submit their profit immediately to avoid fines.
