According to the latest data from the Pakistan Cotton Generals Association (PCGA), Pakistan’s cotton production has shown a significant rehabilitation to reach 2.004 million bales from 40 % year -on -year, from September 15.
This growth was achieved despite prolonged rainfall and floods in the key areas of cotton, with an intelligent approach to the country’s agricultural sector, with the hopes of reducing the import bill of raw cotton and edible oil.
The PCGA report revealed that ginning factories in Punjab took action on 690,000 bales, which increased by 28 % over the previous year. Sindh, the country’s largest cotton manufacturer, has reported a 47 % increase, with 1.314 million bales reached. The overall increase indicates the initial restoration of the cotton sector, which has been struggling with numerous challenges in recent years.
The Cotton Generals Forum Chairman, IHSan-M-HAQ, attributed positive results to a number of factors, including early savings in Punjab, high temperatures which intensified the growth of bid, and a significant increase in production from Sindh. These factors, combined with the better weather conditions in some areas, have led to cotton production.
Market activity has also been raised in response to better production of cotton. Textile mills have purchased 1.652 million bales, an increase of about 300 300,000 bales over the previous year. Exporters have acquired 26,400 bales, which has increased the recovery and market confidence in the domestic supply chain.
In Punjab, the number of active jinning factories has doubled, which has reached 212 compared to the previous year. There are 216 active units in Sindh, an increase of 30 over previous year. In Sandh, Sangar led the production with 779,000 bales, while in Punjab Vihari helped 114,000 bales.
However, despite the positive growth, industry stakeholders are concerned about contradictions in the production of cotton production. Although PCGA has reported Punjab production to 690,000 bulls till September 15, the Punjab Crop Reporting Service (CRS) has significantly elevated the figures till September 18, which is 1.715 million bulls.
Mr Haq said that a clear picture of a total output of cotton for the 2025-26 season will be revealed by mid-October, once the harvest will be completed and the full effects of the recent floods can be estimated.
