Separate meetings with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif Hero with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Cristlana Georgia and World Bank President Ajay Banga on Wednesday, on the occasion of the 80th UN General Assembly meeting, on the occasion of Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms and future economic reforms.
In his meeting with Georgia, the Prime Minister praised the IMF’s long partnership with Pakistan, which he said was strengthened under his leadership. He supported the timely support of the IMF through various programs, including the Billion 3 billion standby management for the financial year 2024, the $ 7 billion expansion fund facility (EFF), and the $ 1.4 billion flexibility and stability facility (RSF).
According to a statement from his office, Sharif, today, Pakistan’s economy, which has been strengthened by deep root structural reforms, is showing positive signs of stability and is on the path to recovery. “He emphasized that Pakistan was making a steady progress in meeting the goals of the IMF program, but emphasized that the impact of the recent floods on the country’s economy during the upcoming IMF review should also be taken into account.
A team from the IMF is set to visit Pakistan on September 25, 2025 for the second annual review of the FEF, which will evaluate the country’s economic performance for the March and June 2025 quarters. A successful review will eliminate a $ 1 billion flight approval route for the IMF board, which will increase the overall distribution under the program more than $ 2 billion.
Georgia expressed sympathy with the recent flood -affected people and emphasized the importance of a comprehensive diagnosis of damage to guide rehabilitation priorities. He also endorsed the IMF’s constant support for Pakistan’s economic reforms.
In his meeting with Ajay Banga, Prime Minister Sharif praised the leadership of the World Bank’s change under Banga, and accepted the organization’s efforts to become a fast, more effective development partner. Sharif highlighted the World Bank’s long support for Pakistan, especially during the Coid 19 pandemic diseases and devastating 2022 floods.
The Prime Minister apprised Banga about Pakistan’s comprehensive reform agenda, which includes measures to mobilize resources, reform energy sector, to tackle private and climate change. Sharif said, “These reforms are strengthening Pakistan’s economic economic, restoring investors’ confidence, and promoting sustainable, comprehensive development.”
Banga praised Pakistan’s reform efforts and confirmed the World Bank’s preparations to continue supporting the country’s development priorities. The two leaders also discussed the World Bank’s new Country Partnership Framework (2026-2035), which included an unprecedented commitment to $ 40 billion for Pakistan.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ensure the effective implementation of the framework framework with close cooperation with the provincial governments, which emphasized its importance for the country’s long -term economic development.
