Senate Faisal Wovada has suggested that if the FBR intends to impose taxes on the tectors, the process should begin in Punjab, where the collections will be high. The advice came during a recent meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, chaired by Senator Saleem Mandowala on finance issues.

According to official sources, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has compiled data from about 100,000 wealthy people as part of its latest crackdown. Sources revealed that even in weddings, people wearing up to 000 20,000 will also be brought under the tax net, in which the FBR will need to explain and declare the source of such wealth.

In addition, tax officials will examine the income tax declarations last year against filing this year. Sources added that if the announcement is not compatible with a significant increase in costs and public exposure to wealth, strict action will be taken.

In another case, the Director General of Law of the President’s Secretariat informed the committee that the FBR had received an order from the Sindh High Court against the president’s decision. The Chairman of the FBR confirmed that the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has ruled that the matter does not fall under his jurisdiction, while the petitioner who filed the matter had taken the matter to the President of Pakistan. The FBR also sought legal advice from the Attorney General on the matter.

The Chairman of the FBR concluded that the committee would wait for the Attorney General’s report before discussing the matter.
