Sugar Millers in Punjab and Sindh have alarmed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Track and Trace (T&T) portal after repeated closure of possibilities and hike in prices.
The warning has emerged as part of a letter from Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) Finance Minister Mohammad Aurangzeb and National Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain. The letter states that the T&T Portal has been offline for several days, especially during September and once again last week, preventing sending in large mills.
The association said that without access to the system, mills are unable to lift sugar or move it to markets, causing severe obstacles to the supply chain.
A PSMA spokesman warned, “If these restrictions are intact, shortage of shortage can trigger another hike in prices.”
According to the Millers, FBR officials have deployed to the factory premises, especially in southern Punjab and interior Sindh, when the system is shut down, refusing to issue clearance on Gates. The association noted that it has become a repeated problem, which is more pressure to provide market supply.
The PSMA called on the government to restore the stability of the system and smooth clearance, and warn that the current situation was at risk, which caused unnecessary fluctuations to sugar shortages and retail prices across the country.
