Pakistan has launched one rupee. 90 million steps to promote shrimp exports by introducing turtle equipment (TED) in crab trolling operations and promoting shrimp exports in crab trolling operations.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Mohammad Junaid Anwar Chowdhury on Thursday announced the move, calling it a step towards compliance with maritime stability and international seafood standards.
He said the project includes training sessions for trawler staff and free distribution and installation of standard TED along with capacity workshops for fishermen.
Data will also be collected to evaluate the effects of devices on crab catch and pure performance.
A ted is a special grid -shaped mechanism equipped inside the crab troll nets. It allows turtles and large marine animals to escape, keeping the shrimp inside.
The Minister noted that the TED will help reduce the accidental grip of the risky species and to address the concerns of local fishermen about shrimp loss and pure loss.
Significantly, the move will help Pakistan regain US certification for shrimp exports, which is suspended for compliance with the Marine Protection Protocol years ago.
“This project reflects Pakistan’s commitment to the responsible maritime resources management,” said Chaudhry. “This will improve the country’s global image in seafood trade and support the goals of long -term biological diversity.”
Officials said the programs are in accordance with Pakistan’s international promises to maritime stability, especially linked to the protection of seafood and the protection of biological diversity.
