Private Schools Reject Summer Vacation Extension in Punjab
The All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association has strongly criticized the Punjab government’s decision to extend summer vacations until September 1, terming it an unnecessary move that could damage students’ education.
The reaction follows an announcement by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on social media, declaring that all public and private schools across the province will reopen on September 1. The minister cited the ongoing heatwave and the need to protect children from potential health risks as the main reasons behind the extension.
However, the Private Schools Association has urged the government to reconsider, noting that Islamabad schools reopening on August 4 and educational institutions in other provinces have also resumed normal classes. They argue that Punjab’s extended break is the only one of its kind in the country and could negatively affect students’ learning, academic progress, and crucial board exam preparation.
Calling the decision disruptive and contrary to the academic calendar, the association stressed that health and safety guidelines could allow schools to reopen safely. It proposed a phased reopening strategy, starting with board classes, to prevent further academic loss.
The organization warned that keeping students out of classrooms for nearly three months may have long-term consequences on their educational development.
