NADRA Public Advisory: Protect Your Personal Data Online

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a public advisory urging citizens to safeguard their personal data and avoid sharing sensitive information with unauthorised websites or mobile applications.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the authority warned of a rising number of fraudulent platforms posing as NADRA to trick people into disclosing their CNIC numbers, biometric data, and other personal details. According to recent reports, some individuals have been lured with promises of incentives in exchange for ID details, only to fall victim to identity theft and illegal use of their information.

NADRA emphasised that in today’s digital age, protecting personal information is not just advisable but essential. The authority advised citizens to avoid unnecessary CNIC photocopies, never hand over ID documents as guarantees, and refrain from sharing them with strangers.

The advisory highlighted that the only safe and official application for such services is Pak Identity, NADRA’s verified digital platform.

The warning comes in the wake of a reported data leakage affecting nearly 2.7 million Pakistanis, which has intensified calls for greater cybersecurity awareness. NADRA also emphasized its interest in the security of the people and informed them to report any suspicious websites or applications that claim to be the authority.

In a related development, NADRA recently simplified the Succession Certificate process, allowing citizens to submit applications at 186 Succession Facilitation Units nationwide, making it easier for legal heirs to access rightful documents without bureaucratic delays.

By following this NADRA identity theft alert and sticking to official channels, citizens can ensure their information remains protected and avoid falling prey to scams.
