Lahore High Court Dismisses Petition Against Private School Fee Hike

Lahore: On Wednesday, the petition challenging the recent rise in school fees of all the private schools in Lahore was dismissed by the Lahore High Court who directed the District Registration Authority to settle the matter within 21 days. The directive came during a hearing reported by 24NewsHD TV.

Justice Khalid Ishaq of the Lahore High Court heard the case filed by Muhammad Ayub and several others, who argued that private schools have been arbitrarily raising tuition fees each year without proper justification.

According to the petitioners’ counsel, under existing regulations, private institutions are allowed to increase their annual fees by no more than five percent. Nevertheless, in the most recent case, the increase was reported to be enormous, 42 percent, raising doubts among parents regarding the price and transparency.

The Lahore High Court, after considering the arguments, instructed the District Registration Authority to review the matter in detail and issue a decision within the stipulated time frame. The ruling underscores the judiciary’s stance that such disputes should be resolved through the designated regulatory body rather than prolonged litigation.

Parents and education rights advocates are now looking to the authority’s upcoming decision, hoping it will address the growing burden of school expenses on families.
