Private Schools Oppose Summer Vacation Extension in Punjab
The summer vacation extension in Punjab has sparked strong criticism from the All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association, which termed the decision “unnecessary” and “harmful” to students’ academic growth.
According to Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat all schools will be reopened on September 1, both in the public and the private sector. This is a shift compared with the date it was before, the 22nd of August. According to him, the change will keep students out of any potential health problems that might result due to the continued heatwave.

However, the association stressed that keeping schools closed for nearly three months could cause serious learning loss and delay board exam preparation. They noted that educational institutions in Islamabad reopened on August 4, while schools in other provinces are already back in session, making Punjab the only province to maintain such an extended break.
Calling the summer vacation extension in Punjab “disruptive and against the academic calendar,” the group urged the government to reconsider its decision. They suggested reopening schools under strict health and safety guidelines, or at least allowing board classes to resume in the first stage through a phased reopening plan.
