HEC Appoints Nadeem Mahbub as Acting Chairperson
This has been a major transformation in the higher education in Pakistan. Nadeem Mahbub has become the Acting Chairperson of Higher Education Commission (HEC). His appointment follows that of the professor Dr. Ahmed Mukhtar who resigned after serving a three year term as a Chairperson.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Professional Training alerted the masses that the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who is the Controlling Authority of HEC, has appointed Mahbub under Section 8 (3) of the HEC ordinance 2002, in a formal capacity.
Mahbub has already been a Commission member and already is Federal Secretary of Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training. He is also the new person and will head the Commission in an acting capacity.
His designation as the Acting Chairperson shall be subject to no more than three months, or in the event a permanent Chairperson is selected and appointed, whenever this happens first.
Such an interim post is required to maintain HEC as reformulation of regulations and policies are carried out in the higher education sector in Pakistan.
