Murad Ali Shah Launches Sindh Teaching Licence for Reforms
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said again that he wants to make the province’s education system match world-class standards so it is good, honest, and can last.
He was a speaker at Karachi event. He praised the new Sindh teaching licence, calling it a crucial step for wider reforms.
According to him, no educational reform is possible without empowerment of teachers first. The teaching profession has to be a profession with dignity and effectiveness restored to the teaching profession. The licensing system will not only increase the status of educators, but also will increase their competence.”
The Sindh examination is the first licence examination to take place this year. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah termed this as a nice first step yet the results were to some extent worrying to him. Just 16 per cent of candidates passed which manifests a large skills gap and indicates the desperate need of capacity- building.
In the past, he thought, almost 50 years ago, our schools were much better. This decay which we now observe has not been sudden, it has been a long time continuing.”
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah added that to develop accountability and professionalism in Sindh classrooms, the recruitment of teachers is currently being done solely on merit basis. This will enable the students to prepare towards competing in a global future.
He said: Lots of people think politics does not have to be licensed, but means of learning must be made to be accountable and credible.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has also pointed out the contribution of teachers in our lives. As he added, true teachers do rejoice in the success of their pupils. I put the teachers that made me what I am on as much of a pedestal as my own mother and father.
The new, rigorous emphasis on teacher quality is coming out in Sindh government. By introducing the Sindh teaching licence, the administration is signalling that only qualified and deserving people should be teaching in the province.
